Dr Aileen Alleyne

Dr. Aileen Alleyne is a UKCP registered psychodynamic psychotherapist and clinical supervisor in private practice. She is a full member of the Forum for Independent Psychotherapists, the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy, and Nafsiyat Intercultural Therapy Centre.

Having lived and worked in London for over fifteen years, Aileen now holds a private practice — the Riverside Therapy Practice, on the East Sussex Coast, which is based in the Newhaven Marina (BN9 9GG). Her extensive experience of working psychologically with adults provides opportunities for people to improve their moods, reorganize unhealthy or negative thinking, and function more resourcefully in their lives.

Aileen brings to her work, knowledge, skills and experience from a diverse professional background. She began her career in nursing, both qualifying as a psychiatric and general nurse and progressing toward a senior position of managing a psychotherapeutic resident community. After training as a counsellor at both the University of London, Goldsmiths' College and Roehampton Institute of Higher Education, she widened her range of specialisms to include alcohol and drug addiction, HIV/Aids, and student counselling. She worked in all these areas in the National Health Service and the voluntary sector in London. Aileen subsequently trained as a psychotherapist at the University of Hertfordshire and as a Clinical Supervisor at the Westminster Pastoral Foundation (WPF). She received her Doctorate in Psychotherapy by Professional Studies from the University of Middlesex and Metanoia Institute, researching stress in the workplace. She set up her own private practice in 1990 and has continued to include in her wider general practice, cross-cultural work with various minority and marginalised groups, including gay men and lesbians.

Alongside her counselling and psychotherapy work at the Riverside Therapy Practice, Aileen provides a clinical supervision service to trainee and qualified counsellors and psychotherapists who are required to have support in their own work. She also offers a consultancy service to organisations and provides training in a number of areas relating to working with diversity.
